Office lighting designed and installed to BS EN 12464-1 standards. LED panels, emergency lighting, meeting room scene control, and smart lighting systems for productive, comfortable workspaces.
Good office lighting does more than just illuminate a workspace. It affects concentration, productivity, comfort, and wellbeing. Poorly lit offices, whether too dim, too harsh, or flickering, cause eye strain, headaches, and fatigue. Well-designed office lighting eliminates these problems while meeting the regulatory requirements set out in BS EN 12464-1.
We design and install office lighting for new fit-outs, refurbishments, and upgrades. Whether you are moving into a new office, reconfiguring an existing layout, or simply replacing old fluorescent panels with modern LED, we deliver a lighting scheme that is compliant, comfortable, energy-efficient, and designed around how your team actually uses the space.
Lighting Standards for Offices
BS EN 12464-1 specifies minimum maintained illuminance levels for different office tasks and areas:
- General office work (desks, screens): 500 lux on the working plane
- Meeting rooms: 500 lux general, with dimming capability for presentations
- Reception and lobby areas: 300 lux
- Corridors and circulation: 100 lux
- Staircases: 150 lux
- Kitchens and break rooms: 300 lux
- Server rooms: 200 lux
- Toilets and washrooms: 200 lux
We use lighting design software to calculate the number, type, and position of fittings needed to achieve these levels with even distribution and no dark spots or excessive glare. The design accounts for room dimensions, ceiling height, surface reflectances, and furniture layout.
Office Lighting Solutions
LED Ceiling Panels
The standard choice for open-plan offices and cellular offices with suspended ceilings. Modern LED panels produce uniform, flicker-free light with a colour temperature of 4000K (neutral white) – the recommended choice for office environments. They drop into the same 600mm x 600mm ceiling grid as fluorescent panels, making upgrades quick and non-disruptive.
Emergency Lighting
All commercial offices require emergency lighting to BS 5266, providing sufficient illumination for safe evacuation in a power failure. We design and install escape route lighting, anti-panic area lighting, and high-risk task area lighting. Emergency fittings can be dedicated standalone units or maintained/non-maintained conversions of the main office lighting.
Meeting Room Lighting
Meeting rooms benefit from dimmable lighting with scene presets – full brightness for general work, reduced brightness for presentations and video calls, and a warm intermediate setting for informal discussions. We install DALI or 1-10V dimming systems with wall-mounted scene controllers or integration with room booking systems.
Task and Feature Lighting
Reception areas, breakout spaces, and executive offices often benefit from feature lighting that goes beyond functional illumination. We install recessed downlights, pendant fittings, wall washers, and accent lighting to create zones and atmosphere within the office environment.
Working With Your Team
We work alongside architects, interior designers, and office fit-out contractors to deliver the lighting element of your project. We can work from your designer's lighting specification or produce our own scheme from a floor plan and brief. In either case, we coordinate closely with other trades to ensure the work happens in the right sequence and the overall project stays on schedule.
