Domestic Electrical Maintenance & Small Jobs

Not every electrical job needs its own dedicated page; sometimes you just need a few extra sockets, a new light fitting, or an outdoor socket for the garden. This is the bread-and-butter work we do every day across Hampshire and Surrey, and no job is too small. If it involves wiring, we will do it.

For anything that takes less than a day, we will give you a fixed price so you know exactly what it will cost before we start.

Common Jobs We Handle

These are the small and medium domestic jobs we carry out most frequently:

Sockets and Switches

• Additional double sockets – the most common request we get. Adding sockets in bedrooms, living rooms, home offices, and kitchens so you are not relying on extension leads.
• USB sockets – replacing standard double sockets with integrated USB-A and USB-C charging points. Eliminates the need for plug-in USB chargers.
• Switch upgrades – replacing old plastic switches with brushed chrome, brushed steel, or matt black faceplates to match a modern interior. We can also install dimmer switches, smart switches, and multi-gang switch panels.
• Outdoor sockets – IP66-rated weatherproof sockets for gardens, patios, sheds, and garages. Installed on a dedicated circuit with its own RCD protection.

Lighting

• Light fitting replacement – swapping old pendants for modern ceiling lights, flush fittings, chandeliers, or wall lights. We handle the electrical connection and ensure the fitting is securely mounted.
• Dimmer switch installation – LED-compatible dimmers that allow you to control brightness. We will check that your existing LED fittings are dimmable before installing.
• Under-cabinet lighting – LED strip lights for kitchen worktops. Hardwired with a switch, not plug-in.

Safety and Compliance

• Smoke alarm upgrades – replacing battery-operated smoke alarms with hardwired, mains-powered, interconnected units. When one alarm triggers, they all sound. This is a requirement in rental properties and strongly recommended for all homes.
• Carbon monoxide detectors – hardwired CO detectors installed near gas appliances and boilers.
• Bonding – supplementary bonding to gas pipes, water pipes, and metalwork in bathrooms and kitchens as required by the wiring regulations.

Outbuildings and External

• Garage and shed wiring – running a dedicated armoured cable circuit from your consumer unit to an outbuilding. We install a small distribution board in the outbuilding with lighting, sockets, and its own RCD protection.
• Electric shower installation – supply and installation of electric showers, or replacement of existing units. Includes the dedicated circuit from the consumer unit and the pull-cord isolator.
• Extractor fan installation – bathroom and kitchen extractor fans, including humidistat and timer models that run automatically when moisture levels rise.

Electric Car Charging Preparation

If you are not ready for a full EV charger installation but want the cabling in place for the future, we can run the dedicated circuit and leave it capped at the charge point location. Customers having other electrical work done can prepare cabling for a future charger

For straightforward work, such as additional sockets, light-fitting swaps, and outdoor sockets, we can usually give you a fixed price over the phone. For anything more involved, we will arrange a quick visit to assess the job and provide a quote on the spot.

We aim to book small jobs within 1–2 weeks of your go-ahead, though we can sometimes fit things in sooner if we have gaps in the schedule. If you have several small jobs that you have been putting off, it is often more cost-effective to batch them into a single visit. We will spend a day at your property and work through the list.
